Modulation effects of Etlingera elatior ethanol extract as anti-inflammatory on chronic kidney disease in mice with hypertension and diabetes

Abstract: The incidence of diabetes increased significantly around the world in accordance with lifestyle and change in eating behaviour. Streptozotocin-Nicotinamide (STZ-NA) is capable of inducing Diabetes Mellitus type 2 in experimental animals for insulin resistance. In this research, we inspect the therapeutic potential of Etlingera elatior ethanol extract (EEEE) on diabetes associated with diabetic nephropathy and hypertension complications in mice models. Diabetes and hypertension are induced in mice using STZ 45 … Show more

“…Oxidative stress is crucial in the pathology of vascular and renal infammation, serving both as a catalyst and as a byproduct of infammatory responses [63]. Vanillic acid is a phenolic acid identifed from LYF, SMR, and ASR in this study and has the efect of improving systolic blood pressure [64]. Early study has shown that vanillic acid signifcantly inhibits the activity of oxidative stress markers in kidney tissue [65].…”

“…Administration of a water extract of Hydrangea paniculate significantly improved the renal function of diabetic mice as evidenced by increased creatine clearance and decreased urine albumin loss [ 30 ]. Widyarini et al demonstrated that Etlingera elatior ethanol extract reduced blood glucose levels and protected renal function by decreasing urine albumin secretion in STZ-induced diabetic mice [ 31 ]. Overall, our results indicate that MTE reversal of albumin loss in diabetic mice may ameliorate podocyte injury and block DN progression.…”

“…Recent studies have highlighted the involvement of inflammation in the etiology of CKD and hypertension. Chronic inflammation not only exacerbates renal impairment but may also increase hypertension by altering vascular function [ 7 ]. While the significance of inflammation in both disorders is well understood, successfully regulating and modifying the inflammatory response to reduce the impact on CKD and hypertension remains an unsolved difficulty.…”
