“…BHV-2 strain CSIRO 290 (22) was used in that study and used here also as it appears to be able to generate TK-deficient strains more easily than BHV-2 strain BHM-1 (10,25). Also, while CSIRO 290 results in only minimal symptoms in cattle (22,26) it does cause severe lesions in guinea pigs (8), allowing for testing of potential vaccines developed from that strain. This virus can be readily grown at 36°C in a variety of bovine cells including the established bovine cell line Madin-Darby bovine kidney (MDBK) cells (a bovine dirreahea virus-free line).…”
