Modelling Rock Mass Improvement Using Rock Bolts

Abstract: Abstract. Anchor support currently represents a significant reinforcing technique in underground constructions. The principles of rock bolt reinforcement action are derived from various concepts of the underground excavation stability. In recent times, rock bolt design techniques have been complemented by numerical calculations procedures. The paper describes FEM modelling of a rock bolt system for mechanical and grouted bolts.

“…Anchors, being a technique to provide stability of stopes, are used worldwide in ore mines, nonmetallic mines, and coal mines (Windsor, 1997;Wen, 2010;Li, 2012;Wen, Jiang, Han, Yang, & Wang, 2016;Ghadimi, 2017;Pruška, 2017). Different mining and geological conditions of their use stipulated the development of a number of anchoring designs.…”

“…Scientific research works on study of the stability of mining roadways, fixed with this type of bolts, mostly fails to into account the influence of the adhesion of binding mixtures with the bolt rod and the rock mass while the loading transfer. Contemporary studies, conducted mathematically, mainly by numerical methods, suggest the existence of a close connection between the bolt's body and the rock block (Pruška 2017;Zesheng at al. 2016).…”
