Benchmark exercise of the full-scale reinforced earth wall behaviour
AbstractThe French National Railway Company (SNCF) is cooperating with Public Work Laboratory (LCPC) in order to get a better understanding of the behaviour of reinforced earth retaining wall for railway embankment. A part of this study is the modelling of that kind of works subjected to static loading in order to predict the deformations. A benchmark exercise was organised, under the care of the French Soil Mechanic Society (CFMS), during the JNGG'08. Five participants predicted the tensile forces in strip reinforcements and the displacements of an experimental structure subjected to a static loading (service load). Results were compared to measurements and discussed based on the talk during the parallel session. Then, three participants continue complementary studies, especially about the part of the soil/reinforcement interface. Results are summarised here. The conclusion deals with the actual ability to predict wall behaviour subjected to this kind of load.
