Modeling electromagnetic wave coupling and mode conversion effects in multitwisted bundle of twisted‐wire pairs (MTB‐TWP) above ground plane

Abstract: A multiconductor transmission line (MTL) model is developed for predicting electromagnetic wave coupling effects with multitwisted bundle of twisted‐wire pairs (MTB‐TWP) running above a ground plane. Such MTB‐TWP is described as a sequential repeated structure, where all its parameters are formulated in terms of sequences. In particular, the parametric equations of all the wires are derived and described by a set of generalized equations, where the unit tangent vector for each wire is also determined analytica… Show more

“…The analysis for the coupling of nuclear EMP with a power transmission line has been investigated in, 28 where lossy earth has been considered as a return conductor and also taken the case of shielded power lines. The interaction of the plane wave with different types of cables using transmission lines theory has been done by Gassab et al in, [29][30][31][32][33][34] in the recent era, which encompasses the study of TWP, bundle of TWP, braided shielded cables and the star-quad cable.…”

“…On the other hand, it is known that the twisted wire pair (TWP) cables can reduce the external coupling due to its special structure, and they are widely used in many communication systems 1–4 to reduce external or internal electromagnetic interferences (EMI). More recently, numerous susceptibility studies have been conducted on TWP cable systems exposed to different electromagnetic plane wave excitations, 5–10 and further, these studies are generalized to be applicable to multi‐twisted structures 11–13 . It has been found that the twisting structure of the cable provides significant benefits in reducing external EMI.…”
