Modeling and Analysis of Performance Degradation Data for Reliability Assessment: A Review

Abstract: Reliability engineering plays an important role in the design, manufacture, maintenance, and replacement of industrial products. Over the last few decades, accelerated degradation testing (ADT) has been largely utilized to shorten test durations, reduce the samples needed, and provide sufficient degradation data to ensure the effective reliability assessment of the concerned products. Meanwhile, performance degradation modeling has been recognized as an essential approach to help researchers and producers unde… Show more

“…The future research emphasis is to extend the assumption to that where inspection may be imperfect. In addition, for degradation systems whose failure distribution is complex in terms of degradation-thresholdshock (DTS) theory [36,37,38], seeking a proper inspection policy analytically is another significant direction.…”

“…Accelerated test methods (also called accelerated degradation tests) are testing programs that accelerate property degradation by subjecting it to conditions outside its normal service range [ 13 , 14 ]. In accelerated testing methodology, degradation is carried out in an intentional and controlled way aimed at effective reliability estimation in conjunction with modelling while reducing the time required for experimental testing [ 15 , 16 ]. The service lifetime is predicted by modelling the evolution of the critical mechanical characteristics (e.g., strength, stiffness) under accelerated degradation and establishing safety and reliability criteria.…”
