Modal phase measuring deflectometry

Abstract: In this work, a model based method is applied to phase measuring deflectometry, named modal phase measuring deflectometry. The height and slopes of the surface under test are represented by mathematical models and updated by optimizing the model coefficients to minimize the discrepancy between the reprojection in ray tracing and the actual measurement. The pose of the screen relative to the camera is pre-calibrated and further optimized together with the shape coefficients of the surface under test. Simulation… Show more

“…However, interferometers are generally expensive and complicated, requiring careful environmental control. As a typical kind of delectometry, phase-measuring deflectometry (PMD) [1] with sinusoidal fringes [2][3][4] or binary pattern [5] has been developed for a decade for surface measurement from slopes or gradients. Particularly, software-configurable optical test system [6,7] based on PMD has been proposed for measuring large aspherical surfaces rapidly, robustly, 2 of 11 and accurately, similar to other kinds of image-based measurement methods [8].…”

“…Song et al [32] selected a binary shifting strip as a structured light pattern for 3D reconstruction of the specular surface. Recently, Huang et al [33] have proposed a model phase measuring deflectometry technique that uses a mathematical method to reconstruct 3D shapes of specular objects.…”

“…However, calibration processes in dual-camera systems are complex. Recently, Huang et al [18] presented a method for simultaneous estimation of the height and the slopes of a surface under test in PMD based on use of a mathematical model and optimization of the orientation of the screen geometry after pre-calibration of the PMD system.…”
