Abstract-Video on demand (VOD) System over mobile Ad hoc network (MANET) is a system that provides video services to mobile clients. The main problem in these systems is the high service delay where the mobile clients have to wait to watch their favorite movie. The importance of this study is to find a solution on how to reduce the delay time in the system. This paper proposed a novel caching scheme called neighborhood-initial playback based caching scheme (NIPBCS) to overcome the service delay by sending the 1st segment of a movie to the new client by a local forwarder (LF). The LFs will send the 1st segment of the movie selected to the client's First buffer when the new client's arrival is detected. When the client wants to watch another movie, the client can tune in to the broadcasting channel that will broadcast the 1st segment of the movie or the client can request from the neighbors or otherwise if the movie the client wants to watch is the same as the 1st segment sent by the Local Forwarder, the client can just switch to the First Buffer and start watching the movie. The aim of this caching scheme is to reduce the time delay in VOD system over MANET. The result obtained proves that NIPBCS reduces the time delay of the system when the number of clients increases and the client failure probability is reduced when the number of clients increases.Index Terms-Video on demand, MANET, NIPBCS, staggered broadcast

Video-on-demand service in wireless networks is one important step to achieving the goal of providing video services anywhere anytime. Typically, carrier mobile networks are used to deliver videos wirelessly. Since every video stream comes from the base station, regardless of what bandwidth sharing techniques are being utilized, the media stream system is still limited by the network capacity of the base station. The key to overcome the scalability issue is to exploit resources available at mobile clients in a peer-to-peer setting. We observe that it is common to have a carrier mobile network and a mobile peer-topeer network co-exist in a wireless environment. A feature of such hybrid environment is that the former offers high availability assurance, while the latter presents an opportunistic use of resources available at mobile clients. Our proposed video-on-demand technique, PatchPeer, leverages this network characteristic to allow the video-on-demand system scale beyond the bandwidth capacity of the server. Mobile clients

Abstract-With the penetration of broadband wireless access network and devices, interactive multimedia streaming to handhelds has become a reality. However, it is still challenging to offer such services to a large number of users in a costeffective manner. With the increase of battery lifetime, memory capacity and processing capability, and the fact that many mobile devices nowadays are equipped with multiple interfaces (3G, Wi-Fi, bluetooth, etc.), we study wireless peer-to-peer (P2P) streaming for scalable interactive streaming. In the network, videos are divided into segments and collaboratively cached and accessed among mobile devices. The major challenge is then which segment to cache at each mobile to achieve efficient access (in terms of low segment access cost).We first formulate the problem of segment caching to minimize segment access cost. We show that the optimization problem is NP-hard and present OPSEC (Optimized Segment Caching), a distributed algorithm which achieves collaborative and efficient segment caching, given heterogeneous caching capacities of the participating users. Using simulation, we show that OPSEC achieves much lower network access cost as compared with some recent schemes for interactive wireless video streaming.
