Mobility and PerformanceBusiness travellers facing the trade-off between work intensification and blurring of boundaries Abstract: The growing diffusion of business travels in the world of work, beyond the genuinely "mobile professions," is a symptom of growing mobility requirements. Stress through business travels is usually discussed in terms of compatibility of work and family life or as mental and physical strain produced by the very activity of traveling. The results show that business travellers not only have to cope with problems of work-life compatibility but also with a trade-off within work: between mobility requirements and the tasks at the regular place of work. In this context, they tend to use private time as a kind of reservoir for coping strategies and the blurring of boundaries as a resource to cope with work-related conflicts.
