Minimum 1D Velocity Model and Local Magnitude Scale for Myanmar

Abstract: Earthquake monitoring in Myanmar has improved in recent years because of an increased number of seismic stations. This provides a good quality dataset to derive a minimum 1D velocity model and local magnitude (ML) scale for the Myanmar region, which will improve the earthquake location and magnitude estimates in this region. “…The program requires a velocity model to compute travel-times -we used the minimum 1-D velocity model developed for the Nordland region by Shiddiqi et al (2022). We estimated the location errors using a bootstrap resampling analysis similar to that of Shiddiqi et al (2019), in which the inversion procedure was repeated 100 times by adding random Gaussian noise with a standard error of 0.2 s to the arrival times and recomputing the hypocenter locations.
