Miniaturized antenna using DGS and meander structure for dual‐band application

Abstract: In this article, the design of a miniaturized planar antenna using defected ground structure (DGS) and meander line structure for C and X‐band applications is presented. A novel star‐shaped and a rectangle DGS created on the ground plane of lambda/4 fed planar antenna and its effect on the size reduction performance is analyzed. Initially, a simple basic antenna (antenna‐1) operates at 14.9 GHz with a reflection coefficient (S11) of −34.56 dB is designed. To achieve miniaturization of 51.27% and 36.77% an ante… Show more

“…The primary design metrics used for investigating UWB MIMO antennas are compact size, filtering out existing narrow bands, and wideband isolation simultaneously. The literature reveals many approaches for attaining antenna downsizings, such as high ε and μ material, meander lines on radiating and ground planes, modifying radiating and ground plane structures, metamaterial loading, and loading lumped elements 8–10 . The antenna miniaturization significantly impacts the antenna's mutual coupling, which degrades overall antenna performance.…”

[8][9][10] The antenna miniaturization significantly impacts the antenna's mutual coupling, which degrades overall antenna performance. Antennas are essential to eradicate the frequencies to avoid interfering with current wireless communication networks.…”
