Midterm Results of Low-Dose Intravitreal Triamcinolone as Adjunctive Treatment for Proliferative Vitreoretinopathy

Abstract: Low-dose (2 mg) triamcinolone acetonide intravitreal injection as an adjunct to vitrectomy and silicone oil tamponade in treating proliferative vitreoretinopathy (grade C or D) appears to be effective and safe.

“…1013 There are also reports that suggest a potential benefit for intravitreal steroids in retinal neovascularization 1417 and proliferative vitreoretinopathy. 18,19 The benefit of corticosteroid injections in ADNIV is limited however, because the condition causes chronic active inflammation.…”

“…The clinical evidence indicates that low-dose intravitreal TA injections as an adjunct to vitrectomy and silicone oil tamponade for PVR are effective and safe 13. Jonas et al15 found that intravitreal injections of crystalline cortisone could reduce postoperative intraocular inflammation without toxicity to the intraocular structures.…”
