Graphene oxide (GO) is a chemical compound with a form similar to graphene that consists of one-atom-thick two-dimensional layers of sp2-bonded carbon. Graphene oxide exhibits high hydrophilicity and dispersibility. Thus, it is difficult to be separated from aqueous solutions. Therefore, functionalization with magnetic nanoparticles is performed in order to prepare a magnetic GO nanocomposite that combines the sufficient adsorption capacity of graphene oxide and the convenience of magnetic separation. Moreover, the magnetic material can be further functionalized with different groups to prevent aggregation and extends its potential application. Until today, a plethora of magnetic GO hybrid materials have been synthesized and successfully employed for the magnetic solid-phase extraction of organic compounds from environmental, agricultural, biological, and food samples. The developed GO nanocomposites exhibit satisfactory stability in aqueous solutions, as well as sufficient surface area. Thus, they are considered as an alternative to conventional sorbents by enriching the analytical toolbox for the analysis of trace organic compounds.

Magnetic polythiophene and poly-3-hexylthiophene was successfully synthesized. FTIR data suggested the presence of functionalized polythiophenes in the nanocomposites. XRD peaks confirmed the entire characteristic peak for Fe3O4 presence in all prepared nanocomposites. From the vibrating sample magnetometry hysterisis loop P3Th-coated MNPs (MNP@P3Th) established great magnetization than other nanocomposites. BET results showed decreasing trend of pore size due to addition of polymer coating. The thermograms of nanocomposite indicated that all the nanocomposites were stable up to 210 °C. The synthesized material was screened for the extraction of commercially available phthalates namely din-octyl phthalate (DNOP) butyl phthalate (DBP), and butyl benzyl phthalate (BBP) and P3Th-coated MNPs (MNP@P3Th) showed highest extraction concentration for all tested phthalates. Magnetic solid phase extraction for chromatographic separation of carbamates

Magnetic solid phase extraction particles (MSPE) were produced using magnetite nanoparticles with diameters between 9 and 13 nm as nucleating agent. The produced particles with magnetite cores were smaller, and more irregular and polydispersed, than those produced in the absence of the magnetite particles. The average diameters of the particles were 377 and 521 nm, respectively, for silica particles with and without magnetic core, whereas the diameters of the different grafted particles were of the same order of magnitude than the silica particles with magnetic cores. BET results indicated surface areas ranging between 9 and 37 m 2 g À1 The TGA results showed that the particles contained about 10% water and other solvents, and between 5 to 6% grafted groups. The thermal decomposition of the particles (presented under Supplementary Information) was autocatalytic with activation energies of 367, 546, and 616 kJ mol À1 for particles grafted with cyanopropyl (cyano), octyl, and trimethyl (TMS), respectively. The order of dispersity of the particles in water followed the sequence cyano > PMA > TMS ≫ octyl, whereas the pesticides removing efficiency followed the reverse order.
