“…Multiple studies have considered the use of SPS to produce Nb-based alloys in different systems, for example Nb-Al, Nb-Al-W, Nb-Al-Mo and Nb-Al-N [15]. Although fully dense alloys were achieved in the Nb-Al system, inhomogeneous microstructures have been obtained in the Nb-Al-W and Nb-Al-Mo systems due to insufficient sintering time, which highlights the need for careful tuning of the SPS process [15].…”

“…Spark plasma sintering (SPS) has been used to prepare HA compacts and a previous study showed that SPS can be an effective method to prepare HA with superior mechanical properties and reduced grain growth [12]. When compared to conventional sintering, SPS makes possible the sintering of HA at lower temperatures and shorter duration by charging the intervals among powder particles with electrical energy, and efficiently applying highly energized spark electrical discharge momentarily [13,14]. The relatively low temperature and short sintering duration of the SPS process would be advantageous in keeping in check the exaggerated grain growth [15].…”

“…In our previous study, the formation of spotty Al 2 O 3 phase was also observed in Nb 3 Al, NbAl 2 , Nb 3 Si 5 Al 2 and Cr-doped Nb(Si,Al) 2 powder compacts prepared by SPS. 14,15,18,19) In addition, the grain boundaries of the BaSO 4 and BaCrO 4 powder particles remained in the specimens A and D. The relative densities of the specimens were as follows: 91.0% for specimen A, 99.1% for specimen B, 95.3% for specimen C and 90.0% for specimen D.…”

“…In the present study, X-BaSO 4 (X: Al 2 O 3 , Ni-Cr alloy and NiAl) composites were prepared by spark plasma sintering (SPS), [12][13][14][15][16][17][18][19] and their microstructure and high-temperature tribological properties were examined using a scanning electron microscope (SEM) and another type of ball-on-disk oscillation tribometer. The SPS process, which is also called pulse electric current sintering, [20][21][22][23][24] is a method used to produce dense alloy and ceramic powder compacts much more easily at a much shorter sintering time than hot pressing and hot isostatic pressing.…”
