MicroRNAs: Emerging Regulators of Immune‐Mediated Diseases

Abstract: MicroRNAs (miRNAs) represent the most abundant class of regulators of gene expression in humans: they regulate one‐third of human protein‐coding genes. These small noncoding ∼22‐nucleotides (nt)‐long RNAs originate by multistep process from miRNA genes localized in the genomic DNA. To date, more than 1420 miRNAs have been identified in humans (miRBase v17). The main mechanism of miRNA action is the posttranscriptional regulation via RNA interference with their target mRNAs. The majority of target mRNAs (more t… Show more

“…For example, Srivastava et al [20] found that 11 miRNAs had significantly altered expression in roots of Brassica juncea exposed to arsenate for 1 h. Mai et al [21] reported that expression levels of miR-20a, -21, -19b, -34a, -34c, -140, and -200b were significantly down-regulated in MC3T3-E1 cells subjected to 1 h of fluid shear stress (FSS) at 12 dyn/cm 2 . Additionally, an increasing number of studies have identified altered miRNA expression in diverse immune responses and immunologic disorders [25][26][27][28][29][30][31][32][33]. In contrast, the expression and function of specific miRNAs during the differentiation, proliferation and activation of mast cells has received little attention [34][35][36][37][38][39][40][41].…”

“…У больных ЯК экспрессия miR-16 в тканях и в крови коррелировала с активностью заболевания, что указывает на роль miR-16 в качестве биомаркера активности ЯК. По мнению ряда авторов miR-16 ре-гулирует производство медиаторов воспаления, но главная его цель -ФНО-α [53].…”

“…Although there is debate over whether to classify miRNAs as epigenetic marks, we have chosen to include them in this review for the following reasons. Over 1,000 miRNAs have been discovered, and they regulate nearly two-thirds of human genes [48]. Because miRNAs control numerous cellular processes, they may be critical for mediating biological responses to air pollutants [17].…”
