Microbeam two-dimensional small-angle X-ray scattering investigating the effects of reduced graphene oxide on local microstructures of high-density polyethylene/reduced graphene oxide nanocomposite bars

Abstract: It has been reported that the introduction of reduced graphene oxide (RGO) can enhance the crystallization and orientation of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) matrix and thus improve the mechanical properties of HDPE/RGO nanocomposites. In this study, the local microstructures and orientations in different regions of HDPE/RGO bars with varied RGO contents were further explored by two-dimensional small-angle X-ray scattering using a microbeam technique. It is unveiled that the orientation orderings of each posi… Show more

“…The 2D plots provides insight about the polymer structure. The isotropic sample typically displays a complete ring, while the oriented sample often displays two or more bright maxima [34,35]. The 2D SAXS signal of all epoxy/OMMT nanocomposites shows a ring pattern, indicating the samples are isotropic with no preffered orientation of the nanostructure within the plane of the samples.…”

“…The data analysis was carried out by the Fit2d software package, version V18.002. From the intensity (I(q)) and the scattering vector (q), which were obtained from SAXS profile, the long period (L 0 ) can be evaluated by Equation (2) [19].…”
