Microarray Expression Profiles of lncRNAs and mRNAs in Postoperative Cognitive Dysfunction

Abstract: Postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD) is serious disorder in the central nervous system common in aged patients after anesthesia. Although its clinical symptoms are well recognized, however, the molecular etiology of the POCD remains unrevealed. Similarly, neither gold standard molecular diagnosis nor effective treatment is available for POCD until the present. Therefore, we aimed to explore the molecular mechanism of this disorder through investigating lncRNAs and mRNAs associated with POCD human patient… Show more

“…LncRNAs represent an important area of research investigating the pathogenesis of POCD. Several recent studies have identified lncRNAs which are differentially expressed in POCD [ 22 24 ]. Among these, Chen et al demonstrated that knockdown of the lncRNA PCAI decreased cell death and degree of inflammatory response in BV-2 cells treated with lipopolysaccharide in vitro [ 25 ].…”

“…Zhang et al found that 68 lncRNAs were dysregulated in the postoperative cognitive dysfunction group compared to non-postoperative cognitive dysfunction group requiring hip or knee replacement surgery. Among them, the DE lncRNAs mainly participated in process of histone deacetylation ( Zhang et al, 2018 ). In our study, we found that the expression of many lncRNAs was abnormal in patients of POD which results are consent with these published studies.…”

“…Besides that, Chen and colleagues found that miRNA-146a could protect the cognitive decline induced by surgery trauma by suppressing neuroinflammation in mice (Chen L. et al, 2019). Also, emerging studies showed the differentially expressed lncRNAs and mRNAs and their potential roles in POCD disease as analyzed by microarray (Wei C. et al, 2017;Zhang et al, 2018;Li et al, 2019). Thus, it is necessary to investigate whether the circRNAs, a unique class of ncRNAs, participate in the pathogenesis of POCD.…”
