Metrics for Cooperative Systems

Abstract: This paper proposes performance indicators and metrics for the analysis of shared workspaces. We investigate user activity in various electronic workspaces of a shared workspace system and compare these on the basis of the proposed metrics: activity, productivity and cooperativity. Based on these results we further investigate the intensity of cooperation on shared documents. The investigations show that the proposed metrics permit an identification of the current cooperation status of a workspace as well as a… Show more

“…The classification scheme shows the necessary data sources and the framework guides the formulation of SQL queries with the final aim of visualizing and understanding how (intensively and successfully) employees are using the Enterprise Collaboration System. Some researchers discuss the development of metrics or key performance indicators for ESS [19], [34] for example with the aim of developing dashboards. We believe that our SCA framework and the data scheme could be used as a starting point to develop dashboard applications.…”

“…Out of the 62 studies, only three suggest deriving metrics from documents [5,8,10]. Whilst most studies are applying existing metrics to data, only two studies develop new metrics [13,28]. Table 1 provides an overview of the software categories, software types, content types and data sources identified in these studies.…”
