“…Expression of these defense-related enzymes (such as PAL, POX, PPO, and LOX) are known to play a major role in determining the host resistance against various phytopathogens. These enzymes are either directly or indirectly involved in HR development (Rusterucci et al 1999), biosynthesis of cell wall strengthening material (lignin and suberin) and antimicrobial compounds (phytoalexins, furanocoumarin, quinones, and pterocarpan) (Mayer and Harel 1979;Daayf et al 1997), as also signaling molecules (Salicylic acid and Jasmonic acid) (Creelman and Mullet 1997;Hammerschmidt 1999). In the present study, chilli plants when sprayed with cerebrosides isolated from F. oxysporum induced H 2 O 2 accumulation, defense-related enzymes such as PAL, POX, PPO, LOX and also enhanced the accumulation of capsidiol and these results were correlated well with the decreased disease incidence compared to control.…”

“…Pleurotus ostreatus growth was inhibited (approximately 80%) with a final concentration of 500 ppm from all extractive samples. Previous studies have shown that oleuropein, hydroxytyrosol, tyrosol, benzoic acid, p-coumaric acid, and catechin exhibit good antifungal or antibacterial activity (Daayf et al 1997;Bisignano et al 1999;Amborabe et al 2002;Friedman 2007;Yangui et al 2010). Protocatechic acid is also an antioxidant (Li et al 2011).…”
