“…Although metastatic MBC patients had unique clinicopathological features and metastatic pattern, we found that there was no difference in OS compared with metastatic FBC patients. Our results were consistent with those of other similar studies, such as stage IV breast cancer patients, 34 gastric cancer patients with liver metastasis, 41 and colorectal signet ring cell carcinoma patients with distant metastasis. 42 Multivariate analysis showed that distant metastasis was an independent risk factor affecting the prognosis of MBC.…”

“…Bone metastasis rates were higher than in previous studies, with bone metastasis rates of 50% in metastatic MBC patients in a previous German study, 33 and 75% in another study based on the SEER database. 34 However, the highest incidence of bone metastasis and the lowest incidence of brain metastasis were consistent with previous studies. Although the rate of single liver metastasis was only 3%, it seems that the rate of liver metastasis combined with other metastases was not low, accounting for 13% of the total metastases, and also in brain metastases (1% versus 10%).…”

“…Nevertheless, previous reports indicate that compliance with these guidelines is generally lower for male patients. 22,23 Research on current guidelines compliance and the development of sex-specific guidelines is warranted.…”

“…However, results on stage-specific survival have been inconsistent. Some studies suggested the sex disparity in OS was only evident for patients with early-stage but not advanced-stage disease. In contrast, studies by El-Tamer et al and Miao et al showed no significant differences in stage-specific survival between male and female patients with breast cancer.…”

“…Historically, it has been acknowledged that MBC presents distinct profiles of clinicopathological features and prognostic outcomes in comparison with female breast cancer (FBC) ( 4 6 ). However, the majority of treatments for MBC are extrapolated from the standardized therapeutics of FBC ( 7 ), with limited consideration of the specific biological features as well as clinical presentations of male patients with breast cancer.…”
