Linguistic categories were developed as tools for describing language systems and making them easier to learn. However, like many theoretical con cepts and systems, they do not fully represent the real world and, in some cases, seek to imprison linguistic units within a wellordered system -a procruste an bed as it were. Besides, although the most general categories are universal, the lowerranking ones are often languagespecific. Idiom (or phraseologism) is a very unclear linguistic concept, subject to neverending debate. However, a strict adherence to categorisation is observable in practical bilingual lexico graphy and phraseography. This may lead to unwanted compartmentalisation and a skewed product. The conventional practice in bilingual lexicography is to provide Blanguage idiom equivalents or analogues for Alanguage idioms and Blanguage lexical items for Alanguage words. Blanguage idioms are not normally provided for Alanguage words and vice versa. This reflects thinking in terms of structures, rather than of semantic equivalence. The sharp demarcation of structures in dictionaries erects needless barriers by imposing the theoreti cal concepts of idiom, compound, derivative and metaphorical lexical item on to practical lexicography. The phrasecompoundderivativeidiom divide is of ten quite arbitrary and changes over time. Moreover, the only functional equiva lent for a word is often an idiom and vice versa.

The aim of this study is to examine how students of the third year of a B.A. in Translation and Modern Languages of the University of Alcalá approach the translation of cultural references of the novel Anybody out there by Marian Keyes (2007) according to different strategies of domestication and foreignization. After having explained the theoretical framework included in this article, we handed out an activity with a set of sentences each of which included a cultural reference. The methodology followed was qualitative since the study is based on the analysis of students' answers to the activity as it will be shown below. Results show that the strategies that students preferred to follow were based on foreignization mainly, since for most cases they did not consider it necessary to add any extra information and did not modify the reference in the ST. This clearly shows the predominant tendency that we can identify nowadays of not adapting cultural references as it was done for example in TV shows from the 80s, where transposition was a key strategy to domesticate the audiovisual content to the target audience.

The 2006–2016 Translation Theory Development in Indonesian Universities: Using Corpus Tools

<p class="TeksAbstrak">This paper reviews the theories used by new scholars in Translation Studies (TS) in Indonesia, to determine whether TS or translation theory there has followed the development of TS throughout the world. The study investigated the terms and authors/scholars of TS found in the final papers of students at Universitas Indonesia and Universitas Negeri Jakarta between 2006 and 2016. Using a corpus tool, WordSmith Tools 6.0, keyword and cluster analyses were applied to search for terms and authors. Results show no significant progress in attainment of knowledge on TS. Indonesian students’ knowledge of translation theory seems to come primarily from the 1960s–1990s era.</p>
