There is numerous evidences are available for use of plants as a medicine in the treatment of diseases in Indian, Egyptian, Chinese, Greek and Roman system of medicine. Pharmacognosy is the study of medicines derived from natural sources, mainly from plants which may further lead to development of new drug. “…They are considered an invaluable source of potential therapeutic agents, modern drugs, nutraceuticals, dietary supplements, folk remedies and pharmaceutical intermediates; many are used as precursors to synthetic drugs and modern therapeutic approaches [ 42 , 43 , 44 ]. It is estimated that about 30% of higher plant species are used in medicine, and that 74% of pharmacologically-active compounds of plant origin were discovered based on their ethnomedical uses [ 42 , 45 , 46 ].…”

“…This is due to their greater compatibility, cultural appropriateness and adaptation with human/animal body, as well as the fact that they have less adverse effects (Hassan, 2012). The curative properties of medicinal plants are due to presence of major group of active components which are mainly phytochemicals like flavonoids, tocopherols, santonins, choline, tannins, carotenoids, folic acid, ascorbic acid, benzoic acid and cinnamic acid (Mahapatra et al, 2019;Bhat, 2021;Faheem et al, 2022). Iwu (2002) reported several drugs derived from ethnobotanical leads, for example, Curcumin from Curcuma longa, Asiticoside canescens from Centella asiatica etc.…”

“…Iwu (2002) reported several drugs derived from ethnobotanical leads, for example, Curcumin from Curcuma longa, Asiticoside canescens from Centella asiatica etc. In the case of human pharmacognosy which lead to development of modern drugs based on laboratory tests, lots of studies are available but in veterinary science such information is scarce (Bhat, 2021). Bharti and Sharma (2012) reported the same plant used for human and veterinary treatment, for example Cannabis sativa, Drymaria cordata etc.…”
