“…It is from this perspective that use of innovative teaching and learning strategies in nursing pedagogy is paramount (Botma, 2014). Nursing and midwifery educators should engage in innovative teaching and learning methodologies that promote the transfer of theory to practice to improve students' clinical skills and competencies (Girzelska et al, 2019). Innovative teaching strategies are approaches and methods that go beyond traditional lecturing and rote learning, aiming to engage students actively, enhance learning outcomes, and foster critical thinking and problem-solving skills (Kruk et al, 2018;Nodari et al, 2020).…”

“…Simulation is a technique that replaces or amplifies genuine experiences with guided experiences, typically immersive, to evoke or duplicate significant features of the natural world in a fully interactive manner (Aebersold, 2018). Simulation-based education (SBE) motivates and benefits students and teachers in acquiring nursing and midwifery skills and competencies because students should practice clinical skills and relevant competencies before interacting with patients in a clinical setting (Girzelska et al, 2019;Sweeney et al, 2019). Despite evidence in developed countries on how SBE promotes the acquisition of clinical skills and relevant competencies (Bvumbwe and Mtshali, 2018;Kamphinda and Chilemba, 2019), most developing countries have a paucity of information about how SBE is implemented in nursing and midwifery programs.…”

“…The use of simulation as a pedagogic method is increasingly being adopted in delivering health-related education, including nursing and midwifery curricula globally (Girzelska et al 2019 ; Janse van Vuuren, Goon & Seekoe 2018 ; Li et al 2022 ). Simulation-based education (SBE) is a practical group-based approach that improves nursing and midwifery student knowledge and abilities to provide safe patient care and is a valuable strategy for acquiring nursing and midwifery skills (Guinea et al 2019 ).…”
