Aim. Analysis of the impact of educational simulation on the level of knowledge, skills and competences of nursing students.Methods. The research used a non-systematic literature analysis method. Literature was classified for analysis, from which the contents on the impact of educational simulation on the education process of nursing students were selected. During the qualification of the magazines Google Scholar was used. Articles published in electronic databases were used: EBSCOhost, MEDLINE, ScienceDirect.Conclusions. Education conducted using educational simulation in nursing not only increases the level of knowledge, skills and competences of students but also increases the quality of patient care and their security.
Nursing graduates are required to have both excellent theoretical and practical skills that should be used during stressful emergency interventions. Since the received knowledge should be practiced to gain skills and trained to achieve competences, simulation exercises can be beneficial to even reduce the stress that each individual may face during emergency management of patients. A total of 146 first-year nursing students participated in the study, including 124 women and 22 men aged between 19 and 50 years, with a mean age of 32 years. The objective method estimated psychophysiological parameters (serum cortisol). Objective and subjective methods were used. The subjective method assessed stress experienced by students based on the standardized Stress Appraisal Questionnaire Version B for dispositional assessment. The study was conducted in the Monoprofile Medical Simulation Centre at the University of Economics and Innovation in Lublin, Poland and was approved by the University Research Ethics Committee. Both participants under and over 25 years of age showed increased levels of stress after low and high-fidelity simulations, with statistically significantly higher stress levels found for the low fidelity method. Low-fidelity simulation methods generated a greater increase in cortisol levels, indicating a higher stress level than the high-fidelity methods. The analysis of the scores obtained in the Stress Appraisal Questionnaire (KOS-B) showed that higher cortisol levels after the low-fidelity simulation reduced the subjective perception of a threat, while higher cortisol levels before the high-fidelity simulation promoted higher intellectual activity among the students. Levels of stress in the education of nursing students using low and high-fidelity methods can limit the sense of threat and activate professional task performance. The use of low and high-fidelity simulation does not generate destructive stress levels.
Introduction. Loneliness is considered a disease of affluence. It is a mixture of lack of acceptance, rejection and unpleasant experiences. It is accompanied by disappointment, unhappiness and pessimism. The consequences of loneliness can be seen in the psyche and physical ailments.Aim. Demonstrating the impact of loneliness on the health of the elderly and possible interventions for entertainment in the prevention of loneliness of the elderly.Methodology. Literature was classified into the analysis, from which the content regarding the influence of loneliness on health of elderly and selected preventive interventions of the discussing phenomena.Conclusions. Loneliness results in the deterioration of the condition of the elderly, increases stress level in the body and the risk of depression. The ways of fighting with loneliness include education, participation in the Universities of the Third Age and activity in the senior clubs.
Most of the pathological changes in the spine begin with the physiological loss of intervertebral disc function. Discopathy of the lumbar spine leads to a significant deterioration in the quality of life, which is why the therapeutic team strives is to improve patients quality of life through actions aimed at reducing spinal dysfunction to an extent that allows for human functioning. The research aim was to determine the quality of life of patients who had been treated as a result of discopathy of the lumbar spine and to establish the relationship between the experience of negative feelings and a subjective assessment of the quality of life with factors resulting frompatient socio-demographics. The study included 110 patients treated for lumbar discopathy. A diagnostic survey method was employed as a research technique, with the use of a proprietary survey questionnaire. Statistic analysis of the results was performedusing the statistical package PQStat v1.6.6. Subjective evaluation of patients quality of life in 66 persons (60%) was at an average level, only 6 (5.45%) respondents rated the quality of their lives as being higher. Those living in towns of up to 50,000 residents rated their quality of life higher (6.21), with the lowest level being reported by those living in the countryside (4.95). Age did not influence significantly the quality of life, but older people most often experienced pain (p=0.4). Analysis of variance did not show statistically significant differences between marital status and respondent quality of life (p = 0.53) but did show significant differences between education levels and the incidence of negative feelings such as fear, anxiety or depression. Socio-demographic variables: such as gender, age and marital status do not significantly differentiate the quality of life of the respondents. There is a relationship between experiencing negative feelings and educational levels. The lower the education level obtained, the more often negative feelings are experienced. The experiencing of negative feelings and disease duration are variables that reduce the quality of life of respondents.
StreszczenieImprovement Science Training for European Healthcare Workers to międzynarodowy projekt badawczy zrealizowany w ramach programu "Uczenie się przez całe życie -Erasmus -projekty wielostronne" dzięki wzajemnej współpracy europejskich uczelni, m.in. Zdr. Publ. 2016, 6, 2, 165-170).Słowa kluczowe: edukacja, doskonalenie, opieka zdrowotna, współpraca międzynarodowa. AbstractImprovement Science Training for European Healthcare Workers was an international research project carried out under the program entitled 'Lifelong Learning -Erasmus: Multilateral Projects'. The project had been implemented in mutual cooperation between European countries. The project encompasses, among others, the University of the West of Scotland -the leader of the Project -as well as the University of Economics and Innovation in Lublin. The research was co-financed by the European Comission with funds from the Erasmus Program. The main objective was to develop common educational programs in the field of 'Healthcare Improvement Science,' based on both academic and practical knowledge that will enable European universities to build their own potential and improve knowledge and skills among students and professionals in the partner countries of the project. Specific objectives include the exchange of knowledge and experience between partners to improve healthcare, collection, review and analysis of data related to teaching on healthcare improvement, the development of an international textbook in the field of 'Healthcare Improvement Science'. The project adopted a variety of approaches and research methods which made it possible to achieve the objectives (Piel. Zdr. Publ. 2016, 6, 2, 165-170).
