“…In the early stages of wound healing, the transition from the inflammatory stage to the proliferative stage was accelerated by MN x sutures, with granulation tissues observed in the treatment groups, indicating MN x can competently mediate a beneficial wound healing process (Supplementary Fig. 51 ) 59 , 60 . Accordingly, we further investigated the effects of MN x sutures on oxidative stress and inflammation in TBI.…”

“…As shown in the schematic wound closure process (Fig. 6a ), scalp injuries from brain trauma are physiologically complex, accompanied by complicated and dynamic interactions strongly associated with time, and can continuously trigger a cascade of molecular and biochemical events in vivo, resulting in severe inflammation and oxidative stress 59 , 61 . Typically, the scalp injuries with PGA sutures only recovered slowly from the inflammatory phase to the tissue modeling.…”

“…For comparison, the epidermis was utterly absent in the BC-C group. Our electromechanical synergistic system rapidly achieved over 96% closure rate and superb reepithelialization effect within 8 days, which obviously exceeded other reported mechanical regulation or electric stimulation approaches based on similar rat models ( 48 52 ) (Fig. 5E).…”

“…( D ) H&E stains of skin at the wound site. ( E ) Wound closure rate of the EMSD-C compared to the reported results by the mechanical regulation or electric stimulation (mechanical contraction parameters, voltage, and frequency) ( 48 52 ). Mechanical regulation and electric stimulation are represented by M and E, respectively.…”

“…Different from the introduction of various drugs or cells into hydrogels to passively promote wound healing, these exogenous signals can directly and actively regulate the behaviors of fibroblasts, keratinocytes, and epithelial cells, modulating the cell behavior to promote wound healing. In one study, the main network of poly ( N -isopropyl acrylamide) hydrogels were formed by free radical polymerization of N -isopropyl acrylamide, a temperature-sensitive monomer, while the semi-crosslinked network was further formed by introducing poly (methacrylic acid) ( Hu et al, 2021 ). The hydrogel could effectively accelerate wound healing in mouse and pig models by promoting angiogenesis, collagen deposition and reducing inflammation through the strong adhesion to tissue and mechanical contraction of the wound.…”
