Measuring the quality of hospitality at Antalya

Abstract: Tourism has become an important pillar of the Turkish economy. Therefore, service quality of the catering sector deserves and attracts attention. This paper employs data envelopment analysis (DEA), a linear programming method, to gauge the validity of official quality ratings at Antalya, a major seaside resort. This benchmarking-based technique is applied to standardise the 'starring' system used by regulators and rating agencies. This is done by using efficiency scores generated by the DEA technique. Such sta… Show more

“…Similar to previous studies (Assaf & Knežević, 2010;Davutyan, 2007), a difference in efficiency results between small-and medium-sized hotels has been found. Small-sized hotel, although they have more limited resources, manage it better than medium-sized hotels.…”

“…It is especially valuable, while in contrast to other research, it uses hotels internal results. This study also contributes to the ongoing debate concerning the difference in efficiency among hotels of different size (Assaf & Knežević, 2010;Davutyan, 2007;Hwang & Chang, 2003;Sanjeev, 2007;Wang, Hung & Shang, 2006).…”

“…In analyzing individual hotel efficiencies, a number of works have encountered a relationship between hotel size and efficiency. For example, Davutyan (2007) and Poldrugovac et al (2016) observe an increasing relationship between the size of individual hotels and their efficiency in the case of Anatolian and Croatian hotels, respectively. Conversely, Pulina et al (2010) find that medium-size hotels are more technically efficient than either small or large hotels in a DEA analysis of the Italian hospitality sector.…”
