Measurement of Power Quality Effects and Energy Efficiency of Various Light Technologies

Abstract: The paper deals with the influence on the power quality of various light technologies and measurement of their energy efficiency (lighting efficiency). A virtual power quality analyzer which enables measurement of all the power components, using the newest power models and definitions, is shortly described. Details of the measurement of harmonics generation by different light technologies are presented. A more realistic approach to the energy efficiency estimation, by the real electrical energy consumption, is… Show more

“…In this case, the use of inductive or electronic ballast as well as the type of circuit for the LED driver, may cause variations of almost 40% in power factor. Thus, based on data provided by [32] and the recent improvement of fluorescent lamp technologies implemented in the market [33], a range of power factor values were set up for CFL and LED technologies, enabling the model to simulate the current situation in which a wide range of possibilities can be found. This procedure is only available thanks to the flexibility of the proposed model, which enables to change the power factor within the simulations.…”

“…They draw from the network a high amount of electric energy, often close to the power demand of large industrial plants. In these objects is usually installed a significant number of non-linear loads [1][2][3][4]6]. These include mainly: -all kinds of discharge type light sources, -power electronic equipment containing input rectifiers (computers, monitors, printers, servers, impulse-type power suppliers UPS).…”
