Measurement-based Analysis of Dense Multipath Components in a Large Industrial Warehouse

Abstract: This work presents a measurement-based polarimetric analysis of the specular-and dense multipath components (SMCs and DMC) in a large industrial warehouse. MIMO channel sounding measurements were carried out in a flower auction warehouse, and were processed with the RiMAX multipath estimation framework. In the analysis, we investigate the behavior of the SMCs and the DMC power as a function of both the polarization and the transmitter-receiver distance for 1507 distinct positions of transmitter and receiver. “…In (5), the variable τ sn is the relative delay of S sn due to distance offset in [14] and obeys exponential distribution with E[τ sn ] mean. However, it was noted that the delays of the DMCs are not only attributed to the scatterers that are directly visible to the BS and MS, but also to the scattering phenomenon caused by those scatterers that are hidden between the visible scatterers [10].…”

“…Besides, compared with other scenes, the channel in industry has new channel characteristics such as changing path loss, rich scatterers, and multi-mobility due to the existence of a large number of mechanical equipments, metals, and sensors [1], [3]. So much work had found that the channel impulse response in industrial scenario can be modeled as a summary of specular multipath components (SMCs) and DMCs [5], [6]. DMCs account for a larger proportion in an indoor factory [5], [6].…”

“…Here one can note the robots carrying warehouse racks and stopping if they breach the safety distance to the human. The communication is intended to be realized using ultrawideband (UWB) signals, since they enable accurate localization, high data rates and are immune to fading which makes them suitable for use in multipath environment such as warehouse [7,8].…”
