Matrix effects during trace elements analysis in plant samples by inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry with axial view configuration and ultrasonic nebulizer

Abstract: Abstract. Plant matrix effects have been characterized during trace element analysis by axial view inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry with ultrasonic nebulizer. Six elements were studied: As, Cd, Co, Cr, Ni, and Pb. The interferences were simulated by measuring analyte signals on solutions containing various concentrations of elements encountered in mineralized plant samples such as K, Ca, Mg, P, Na, Fe and Mn. Signal suppression is observed for the ionic lines and signal enhancement occur… Show more

“…An ICP-AES Iris Intrepid (Thermo Fischer Scientific Inc., Waltham, USA) and an ICP-AES Liberty Serie 2 (Varian, Mulgrave, Australia) equipped with an ultrasonic nebulizer U-5000AT+ (CETAC, Omaha, Nebraska, USA) was used for Cd and Pb analysis. Spectrometer operating conditions are fully described elsewhere [32] , [33] . Analysis quality was controlled using an in-house laboratory reference sample V463 (entire maize plant) and blanks which have undergone the entire analysis process.…”

“…Le dosage de l'azote et du carbone a été fait par la méthode Dumas (Dumas, 1831). Quant aux autres éléments minéraux à savoir le phosphore, le potassium, le calcium, le magnésium, le sodium, le fer, le manganèse, le zinc et le cuivre totaux, leur dosage a été fait par la méthode ICP-Radial (Masson et al, 1999). Les cendres et la matière organique ont été obtenues par calcination au four à moufle à 480°C pendant 5 heures .…”

“…The ultrasonic nebulization (USN) provides high analyte transport efficiency that results in improved sensitivity and lower limits of detection in comparison to pneumatic nebulization (PN) [1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8] . However, USN seems to be affected by stronger matrix effects than PN, although their mechanism has not yet fully clarified [9][10][11][12][13] .…”
