Foto: Prometeo Lucero, abril de 2010.Este artículo expone un caso de desposesión territorial, destrucción del paisaje y dominación política de comunidades campesinas mexicanas protagonizado por la corporación canadiense Goldcorp en su afán por apropiarse de los minerales subyacentes mediante la brutal minería de tajo a cielo abierto. Se muestra cómo la corporación, con apoyo de agencias del Estado mexicano, establece vínculos de dominación sobre las comunidades locales fundados en el principio de "reciprocidad negativa", definida como "la intención de tomar impunemente algo sin dar nada a cambio". Esta práctica política de coerción otorga los beneficios a la corporación y transfiere impunemente los costos sociales y ambientales a las comunidades.Palabras clave: minería a cielo abierto, corporación minera, acumulación por desposesión, comunidad campesina, Goldcorp

Recycling of electrical and electronic equipments is one of the most important topics that have a great significance for environmental protection. Currently, the most part of electrical cables used for power delivery contains huge amounts of conductors and polymeric materials. Therefore, every year thousands of kilometers of cables are disaffected and the polymeric insulation and metals are recovered for other applications. Generally, the electrical insulation and polymeric sheath of the most part of medium and low voltage cables are made of polyvinyl chloride (PCV) and polyethylene (PE). In view to recycling the mixtures that result from cables chopping, an effective method widely used is the electrostatic separation. The present paper is focused on the electrostatic separation of granular mixtures containing two different PCV sorts that are used for insulation and sheaths of cables. A laboratory-scaled roll-type electrostatic separator is used in order to process a specially prepared granular mixture that consists of particles of sheath and insulations PCV. The results show that the particles of PCV used for conductors' insulation can be sorted from those resulting from PCV sheath chopping. Also, it is observed that, the separation efficiency can be increased by adjusting the applied voltage and the rotation speed of the roll electrode.

Electrostatic shape separation was considered to be an adequate technique for processing a particulate mixture of flake mica and isometric granules of feldspar and quartz. The authors carried out extensive laboratory experiments to concentrate flake muscovite from a pegmatitic product with content of 50 to 65% of mica. Prior to electroseparation, the granular material was dried and vibrating screens were employed to obtain two fractions" +1 mm (which represented more than 70% of the feed), and-1 + 0.315 mm. Each fraction was then treated in the corona-field roll-type separator. In the first group of experiments, two corona electrodes of opposite polarities were conveniently located relative to the grounded metallic roll carrier. The second group of experiments necessitated one corona electrode only, but the roll carrier was covered by a dielectric layer. These two electrostatic shape separation methods were discussed, based on a crude evaluation of the charges and forces which act on various constituents of the granular mixture. Mica concentrates with 45.47% SiO, 36.08% AlcOa and 10.4% (KO + NaO) were obtained, using a two-stage electroseparation scheme. These products fulfill the requirements regarding the composition and the size distribution of the flake mica for several applications in the industry of electrical insulating materials.
