Mapping quantitative trait loci for seed size traits in soybean (Glycine max L. Merr.)

Abstract: Seed size traits in soybean--length, width and thickness--and their corresponding ratios--length-to-width, length-to-thickness and width-to-thickness--play a crucial role in determining seed appearance, quality and yield. In this study, an attempt was made to detect quantitative trait loci (QTL) for the aforementioned seed size traits in F(2:3), F(2:4) and F(2:5) populations from the direct and reciprocal crosses of Lishuizhongzihuang with Nannong 493-1, using multi-QTL joint analysis (MJA) along with composit… Show more

“…The LOD threshold 3.0 was used to declare significant additive QTL and 5.0 to declare significant epistatic QTL. To find stable QTL, multi-QTL joint analysis program was used to detect main-effected QTL, epistatic QTL and environment effects from four environments Dou et al 2010;Xu et al 2011). In the joint analysis, the average phenotypic value of quantitative trait for the ith CSIL family at the jth environment, y ij , may be described by the following model:…”

“…Five main effect QTL were found in three population [F(2:3), F(2:4) and F(2:5)], had higher heritability, greater than 20%, which population derived from the direct and reciprocal crosses of Lishuizhongzihuang with Nannong 493-1 (Xu et al, 2011). By the empirical Bayes algorithm, a 307-bp allele of QTL linked to satt453 was found via 257 soybean cultivars obtained by stratified random sampling from six geographic ecotypes in China (Niu et al, 2013).…”

“…QTL are reported for traits related to weight and size of the seeds (Liu et al 2011, Xu et al 2011, Han et al 2012, Sun et al 2012, Hu et al 2013, Liu et al 2013, Pathan et al 2013, Yesudas et al 2013, Kato et al 2014. Moreover, at least six QTL have been reported for grain yield, specifically (Palomeque et al 2009, Sebastian et al 2010, Kim et al 2012, Fox et al 2015, besides the several QTL mapped for other grain yield components from different populations , Guzman et al 2007, Zhang et al 2010, Liu et al 2011, Liu et al 2013.…”
