Management of meningitis caused by penicillin-resistant Streptococcus pneumoniae

Abstract: Since the isolation of the first penicillin-resistant Streptococcus pneumoniae strain in 1967 (23), there have been many reports of treatment failure in patients with pneumococcal infections caused by strains resistant to penicillin and other antimicrobial agents such as chloramphenicol, macrolides, trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole, and the cephalosporins. As a result, the selection of antimicrobial agents for the treatment of infections caused by these organisms has become increasingly difficult. In particular, … Show more

“…[10][11][12][13] In addition to its ability to combat infection or neoplastic disease, an antibiotic must exhibit selective toxicity, chemical stability, and optimun rates of bio-transformation and elimination. 14,15) In this paper we report the synthesis of copper(II) and cobalt(II) complexes with mixed ligands: 4-chloro-3-nitrobenzoic acid (ClNBz) and 1,3-diamino propane (1, or o-phenylenediamine (o-PDA).…”
