Magneto-induced large deformation and high-damping performance of a magnetorheological plastomer

Abstract: A magnetorheological plastomer (MRP) is a new kind of soft magneto-sensitive polymeric composite. This work reports on the large magneto-deforming effect and high magneto-damping performance of MRPs under a quasi-statical shearing condition. We demonstrate that an MRP possesses a magnetically sensitive malleability, and its magneto-mechanical behavior can be analytically described by the magneto-enhanced Bingham fluid-like model. The magnetoinduced axial stress, which drives the deformation of the MRP with 70 … Show more

“…The above phenomenon is opposite to the relationship that shear stress of MR plastomer increases with the shear rate. 27 Moreover, from Fig. 7(a), in the absence of magnetic eld strength, the normal force of MRG-70 under different shear rate keeps constant along with the shear strain.…”

“…Moreover, the MRP is a typical soft magnetosensitive polymer composite, so it has a large magneto-deforming effect. The quasi-statical shearing testing measurements indicate that the MRP exhibits a high magneto-damping performance, which can also be described by the mageto-enhanced Bingham fluid-like model [84].…”

“…the shear stress evenly trends stable aer a sudden increment, which is different from the MR grease 36 and MR plastomer. 37 Another notable characteristic is that the inuence of shear rate on the shear stress will be negligible gradually with the increasing of the external magnetic eld.…”
