Machine Learning Techniques for Improving Self-Consumption in Renewable Energy Communities

Abstract: Renewable Energy Communities consist in an emerging decentralized market mechanism which allows local energy exchanges between end-users, bypassing the traditional wholesale/retail market structure. In that configuration, local consumers and prosumers gather in communities and can either cooperate or compete towards a common objective, such as the minimization of the electricity costs and/or the minimization of greenhouse gas emissions for instance. This paper proposes data analytics modules which aim at helpi… Show more

“…The political economy of rent-seeking explains that "inclusive institutions" enhance the dynamic efficiency of the market process through checks and balances and restrictions on executives, legislatures and bureaucrats. Hence, the responsibility for resolving environmental issues is the legal system and not government regulation [97]. From the standard of dynamic efficiency, it is only permissible to coerce someone if it has been proven in court (or in arbitration) that the defendant is an aggressor of the property rights of others beyond a reasonable doubt [98].…”

“…The measurement [14] of data as a primary data collection is to understand the operation and event occurrence, calculate, explain, and validate the industry's energy consumption. The energy auditing tool [15] of Passive Home Planning Package (PHPP) and Transient System Simulation (TRNSYS) are used for energy estimation, and equivalent energy savings with greater accuracy and machine learning [16] algorithms are used for energy self-sufficiency. The effectiveness of energy audit diminishes with the number of employees increasing in the organizational size [17] in lighting, heating, insulation, and operations.…”

“…Suitable adaptation techniques and learning strategies were proposed in [36] to model the behavior patterns of prosumers, as well as the levels of participation in the power grid through power injection. In [37], machine learning strategies were applied to manage the renewable resources of a community of prosumers. In this work, the objective was to minimize the energy consumption expenditures of the community.…”
