Lysosomal hydrolases of the epidermis

Abstract: Five distinct ester hydrolases (EC 3-1) have been characterized in guinea-pig epidermis. These are carboxylic esterase, acid phosphatase, pyrophosphatase, and arylsulphatase A and B. Their properties are consistent with those of lysosomal enzymes.

“…Preliminary investigation of 14 acid hydrolases indicated, in agreement with our previous findings (Mier & van den Hurk, 1976), that the most marked elevations occurred in ff-glucosidase and arylsulphatases A and B; these three enzymes were therefore selected for subsequent experiments. Our results are shown in Table i.…”

“…Since our sections usually include a little dermis, the possibility that these results are a consequence of invasion by inflammatory cells must be considered. However, this seems to be unlikely since the hydrolase profile of leukocytes is quite different to the pattern of increases observed either in spontaneous skin disease (Mier & van den Hurk, 1976) or following UVR. In particular, contamination with leukocytes should result in marked increases in the levels of/?-glucuronidasc and cathepsin C; these enzymes remained within normal limits throughout our experiments.…”

“…Additionally, Lgr5 (leucine-rich repeat-containing G protein coupled receptor5) has been identified as a gastrointestinal tract stem cell marker [38]. Notably, the Lgr5+ CSCs have been reported in pancreatic, gastric and colorectal cancers [3840]. Recently, Daniel and colleagues established that the zymogenic chief cells which reside at the base of the gastric glands of the corpus express Troy (a member of the tumor necrosis factor receptor superfamily).…”

“…Besides warming temperatures, vector presence and abundance, considering environmental factor the socioeconomic factors such as population growth, poverty and the related environmental consequences issues should be considered. For example, the abandoned of DDT for insect control helped the reemergence of many of these annoying tropical diseases [29,30]. When the population grows, people starts to invade new areas, the rural areas became changed to urban which is a major driver of the Zika virus epidemics, and consequently more cases of microcephaly in infants will be seen [30,31].…”

“…Swampy and watery areas facilitate the vector to reproduce in the area; hence, it directly relates and facilitates the Zika virus spread in that particular area [16,28]. For instance, flooding resulted after drought leads to collecting of pools of water, consequently mosquitoes will have good breeding ground accompanied by the warmer temperature [29,30]. Besides warming temperatures, vector presence and abundance, considering environmental factor the socioeconomic factors such as population growth, poverty and the related environmental consequences issues should be considered.…”
