Luminescent Properties of (004) Highly Oriented Cubic Zinc Blende ZnO Thin Films

Abstract: Photoluminescence properties of cubic zinc blende ZnO thin films grown on glass substrates prepared by the spray pyrolysis method are discussed. X-ray diffraction spectra show the crystalline wurtzite with preferential growth in the (002) orientation and a metastable cubic zinc blende phase highly oriented in the (004) direction. Raman measurements support the ZnO cubic modification growth of the films. Photoluminescence (PL) spectra of zinc blende films are characterized by a new PL band centerd at 2.70 eV, t… Show more

“…Where G is the grain size, λ is the CuKα, β is the full width at half maximum and θ is the angle of diffraction. The results are in agreement with previous works that have reported cubic and hexagonal phases of ZnO (Chandappa and Venkatesha, 2012; Munoz-Aguirre et al, 2019).…”

“…At low annealing temperatures, at which samples have a high concentration of impurities, the relief observed for films 1e includes rather frayed fibres, very different from the more uniform yarns visible for films 1a to 1c . This difference might be related to the presence of a noticeable amount of sphalerite phase in films 1e annealed at temperatures below 600 °C [ 58 ], which disappears at this temperature. The different behaviour is still much more evident for films 1d , where annealing produces quartered layers that at high temperature leave a very thin transparent film.…”

“…Zinc oxide (ZnO) can exist either as hexagonal zincite (würtzite type) or cubic (zinc blende-type) modifications. The Raman spectra of zincite should include additionally a sharp band at about 437 cm −1 (TO) and another wide band at 524 cm −1 (LO) with a 562 -cm −1 shoulder (RRUFF, R060027 card); in the case of ZnO cub , additional bands may appear at about 340 (TO) and 525 cm −1 (LO) [122,123]. However, none of these bands were observed in our sample.…”
