<b>Total lipid nutritional quality of the adipose tissue from the orbital cavity in Nile tilapia from continental aquaculture

Abstract: ABSTRACT. This study aimed to determine the fatty acid composition and nutritional quality indexes of total lipids in adipose tissue from the orbital cavity of Nile tilapia from continental aquaculture in Paraiba State, Brazil. The tilapias were captured in six fish farms, and after slaughtering and bleeding, the adipose tissue from the orbital cavity was reserved, frozen and lyophilized for analysis of fatty acid composition by gas chromatography. By decreasing order, oleic, palmitic, linoleic, stearic, and p… Show more

“…Our results are consistent with the expected action of increased n-3 in the reduction of IL-6 and liver weight in groups LO and SLO, which ingested higher levels of n-3 PUFA (p < 0.05) [50]. The increase in IL-10 in the LO group enhanced the protective characteristic of n-3 PUFA since it inhibited the production of IL-6, thereby reducing the pro-inflammatory effects [46,47].…”

“…The hypercholesterolemic index represents the proportion between PUFAs and SFA present in the diet and high values indicate a favorable nutritional balance; thus, the lower the SFA quantities, the lower the tendency to activate inflammatory markers, the risk of cardiovascular diseases, and the accumulation of free FAs in the liver [45,46]. The HH values of 4.82 for SO and 14.85 for LO are superior to those reported for Brazilian fish (1.87-2.18), already considered rather high [47].…”

“…The following parameters were calculated: atherogenic index (AI), thrombogenic index (TI) and hypocholesterolemic to hypercholesterolemic fatty acid ratio (h/H). The parameters were calculated from the formulas [41]: AI = (C12:0 + 4 × C14:0 + C16:0)/[∑MUFA +∑(n−6) + ∑(n−3)]; MUFA are monounsaturated fatty acids TI = (C14:0 + C16:0…”
