Low-cost compact spiral inductor resonator filters for system-in-a-package

Abstract: In this paper, compact spiral inductor resonators filters, which are embedded in the package substrate, using spiral inductor type resonator are proposed. The design is based on the selfresonance frequency of the spiral inductors and electromagnetic coupling effects among resonators. The filters were built and measurement results have good agreement with the simulation data. The proposed filter design technique is generalized and can be implemented in different multilayer arrangement. The new compact inductor … Show more

“…In the literature, several works have been carried out to characterize the analytical model of passive SRs [26], [27], [28], [29], [30]. Conventionally, the equivalent circuit of a planar SR can be modeled as an RLC series resonator, and these lumped parameters could be accurately determined following the extraction procedure described in [28].…”

“…High-quality on-chip inductors are vital in the implementation of transceivers aimed for wireless communication systems (Hung-Wei et al , 2005; Lin et al , 2007; Gye-An et al , 2005). The performance measures in designing an inductor are optimal inductance (L), higher quality factor (Q) and self-resonance frequency ( f SR ) for the miniaturized on-chip area.…”
