Long-range triplet proximity effect in multiply connected ferromagnet-superconductor hybrids

Abstract: Applying the linearized Usadel equations, we consider the nucleation of superconductivity in multiply connected mesoscopic superconductor/ferromagnet (S/F) hybrids such as a thin superconducting ring on a ferromagnet with a uniform in-plane magnetization M and a spin-active S/F interface. We demonstrate that the exchange field in F provokes a switching between superconducting states with different vorticities which may increase the critical temperature ( Tc ) of the superconductor in a magnetic field. We study… Show more

“…[29] This allows one to expect examination of curvilinear 3D superconducting structures in other domains of science and technology such as magnetoelectronics, [40,741] spintronics, [742,743] magnonics [131,[744][745][746] and metamaterials with 3D superconductors and chirality. [747] Furthermore, the combination of superconductors with ferromagnets in curvilinear geometries should open novel prospects for superconducting spintronics, [748] proximity-induced spin-triplet superconductivity, [651,749] magnetic cloaking, [667,750] hybrid superconductor-ferromagnetic metamaterials [751][752][753] and the improvement of current-carrying ability of superconductors. [754,755] In addition, ferromagnetic decoration of curvilinear superconductors is expected to modify the signatures of vortex guiding [756,757] and ratchet effects, [758] flux-flow instability, [722,756,759] microwavestimulated superconductivity in the vortex state, [716,760] thereby advancing the development of 3D fluxonic circuits.…”

“…We assume that the thickness t of the F layer is much longer than the coherence length in the ferromagnetic layer κ F t 1. In the long-junction regime, the condensate function is mediated primarily by the long-range triplet superconducting correlations [35,64,65], whereas the singlet and short-range triplet correlations decay over the length κ −1 F . At the outer interface of the F layer, the condensate function is given by the only long-range component f 1 .…”
