Localization algorithms for asynchronous time difference of arrival positioning systems

Abstract: An asynchronous time difference of arrival (ATDOA) positioning system requires no time synchronization among all the anchor and target nodes, which makes it highly practical and can be easily deployed. This paper first presents an ATDOA localization model, and then primarily focuses on two new localization algorithms for the system. The first algorithm is a two-step positioning algorithm that combines semidefinite programming (SDP) with a Taylor series method to achieve global convergence as well as superior e… Show more

“…Although, the conventional TDOA‐based positioning systems require synchronization between measuring units , some asynchronous indoor positioning systems have been proposed and implemented where additional mechanisms have been used to obtain valid TDOA measurements . An asynchronous time difference of arrival (A‐TDOA) named as Whistle has been presented in Ref.…”

“…The A‐TDOA positioning system described in Ref. uses a single node to measure TDOA in contrast to conventional TDOA system which deploys a pair of synchronized measuring units to determine a single TDOA measurement. The system does not require clock synchronization neither between transmitter and measuring unit nor between the measuring units.…”
