Line-start permanent-magnet motor: single-phase starting performance analysis

Abstract: Abstract-This paper presents a detailed quasi-steady-state approach to different torque components (average and pulsating) for a single-phase capacitor-run permanent-magnet (PM) motor. By employing average electromagnetic torque, and the expected envelope of the pulsating torque, an accurate prediction of starting torque components behavior is made. The quasi-steady-state analysis of the asynchronous performance of the single-phase capacitor-start capacitor-run PM motor is realized through a combination of sym… Show more

“…Examples of surface mounted type and embedded type, which are involved in this article, are shown in Figure 1. The performance of the PMSMs can be elevated by employing rare earth magnets [1,12,13]. In order to guarantee the designs of these machines in the best possible manner, many researches have been done in order to optimize the sizes of PMs [12,14].…”

“…In order to guarantee the designs of these machines in the best possible manner, many researches have been done in order to optimize the sizes of PMs [12,14]. From the early classical research works on single-phase PMSMs, to the extended works, wide detailed facets of the performances of this class of machines are covered, for example, torque behavior, power efficiency, and so on [13]. An approach to improve interior PM (IPM) synchronous motors was proposed in [15].…”

“…Such motors can be supplied from a three-phase or single-phase voltage system [3] and they are becoming dominant in the industrial applications market [4]. As remarked in [2], the efficiency of PMMs enables totally enclosed design with surface cooling with high flux densities in the air-gap facilitating the construction of motors of unsurpassed power density.…”
