Phases in decision-making – from the desire to procreate to the decision to adopt This article shows that Medically Assisted Procreation (MAP) and adoption are two separate phases and not alternatives in the parenthood process. When MAP fails, it is only then that applicants turn to adoption. The exception lies with single women and homosexual couples, who prefer from the outset to turn to adoption rather than a one-off genitor or artificial insemination with donor. However, decision-making in adoption occurs more or less rapidly according to the biography of the applicants.
