Lens of controllable optical field with thin film metallic glasses for UV-LEDs

Abstract: In the exposure process of photolithography, a free-form lens is designed and fabricated for UV-LED (Ultraviolet Light-Emitting Diode). Thin film metallic glasses (TFMG) are adopted as UV reflection layers to enhance the irradiance and uniformity. The Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) with high transmittance is used as the lens material. The 3-D fast printing is attempted to make the mold of the lens. The results show that the average irradiance can be enhanced by 6.5~6.7%, and high uniformity of 85~86% can be obtai… Show more

“…Another characteristic of this elastomer is its biocompatibility, which means that PDMS is compatible with biologic tissues [ 49 ]. PDMS presents a transmittance up to 90% for the wavelength from 390 nm to 780 nm [ 51 , 52 , 53 ] and, due to this characteristic, PDMS-based microsystems allow the direct observation of the mimicked blood flow inside the mimicked vessels and the integration of optical detection systems, hence playing an important role in this field.…”

“…Due to its elastic properties, PDMS can withstand up to 140% reversible stretch depending upon its thickness [55]. This organosilicon material offers a good transparency (up to 90%) in a wide spectral range (350-950 nm) which proves its feasibility in examining the mechanical strain by optical methods [56,57].…”

“…LED light source can be considered a Lambertian distribution, and the light emission of half intensity angle is 60 ∘ that affects the uniformity of light distribution on the target plane. A secondary optical uniform lens is fabricated to solve the problems and the uniformity can be enhanced by using this design [15,16]. The light distribution of a bare LED is Lambertian distribution, whose light distribution is defined as cosine exponential function of angle .…”
