The impact of informal care provision on life satisfaction remains an unsolved puzzle: because of reverse causality and time-varying unobserved variable biases, simple cross-sectional estimations or fixed-effect models may provide unclear picture of the causal relation between the informal care supply and life satisfaction. Using panel data from the Longitudinal Internet Studies for the Social Sciences (LISS) for the Netherlands over the period 2009-2018, we first estimate a simple Ordinary-Least-Square (OLS) model with fixed-effect analysing the impact of informal care on caregivers' life satisfaction. We then use an Arellano-Bond system Generalized-Method-of-Moments (GMM) model to address endogeneity issues. We find that taking into account an endogeneity bias slightly increases the negative impact of providing informal care on life satisfaction compared with an OLS with fixed-effects approach. Additionally, the detrimental effect of providing care is larger for women, individuals being in co-habitation with children, and unemployed individuals. Among caregivers, providing support to someone living in the same household or being a family caregiver has a stronger negative impact on life satisfaction.

Résumé Actuellement, le nombre de personnes âgées vivant en couple et susceptibles de s’adresser à un service social augmente. Basé sur l’analyse qualitative de 13 entretiens avec des assistants et assistantes sociales accompagnant des personnes âgées et travaillant dans la partie francophone du Valais (un canton de la Suisse), cet article vise à explorer les questions suivantes : d’une part, comment la conjugalité est-elle prise en compte dans le cadre de l’accompagnement social de personnes âgées ? D’autre part, comment les inégalités de genre et les situations de couples conflictuelles sont-elles gérées ? Enfin, comment les prises de décision et les pratiques professionnelles face à ces situations sont-elles justifiées ?

How does French-language sociology deal with aging? This is the question posed by this contribution, which explores articles published within the past fifteen years in various French-language scientific journals. Through a systematic review of the scientific literature, we analyze the evolution of topics in the sociology of aging through five wellknown French-language journals of sociology. Three of them are generalist journals (Revue française de sociologie, Revue suisse de sociologie, Recherches sociologiques et anthropologiques), from France, Switzerland, and Belgium respectively. The remaining two journals, both from France, are specifically devoted to the study of aging (Gérontologie et société, Retraite et société). The results invite further exploration of the influence of the national contexts in which French-speaking European sociologies are structured.
