Laser Laparoscopic Herniorraphy: A Clinical Trial Preliminary Results

Abstract: Laser laparoscopic inguinal herniorraphy represents an extension of current technology. Based on the principles of preperitoneal inguinal herniorraphy, it is performed by internal incision of the peritoneum and identification of the musculofascial defect through a laparoscope. Polypropylene mesh is then passed down the laparoscope, placed into the defect to obliterate the space, and the edges of the peritoneum are then reapproximated. Results in 20 patients with an 11 month followup indicates success in ninete… Show more

“…10 The first reported use of prosthetic mesh for laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair was in 1991. 11,12 Laparoscopic approaches allow hernia repair without the need to open the abdominal wall. Instead, small incisions are made for the operating instruments and for a laparoscope.…”

“…Laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair took hold as a reliable means of herniorrhaphy in the early 1990s, propelled by the findings of Shuthe et al 1) . According to data obtained through the 12th questionnaire-based survey of endoscopic surgeons conducted by the Japan Society for Endoscopic Surgery in 2014 2) , the number of mesh-based laparoscopic transabdominal preperitoneal (TAPP) hernia repairs performed in Japan increased dramatically from 12 in 1990 to 5748 in 2013.…”

“…Diversos tipos de procedimentos foram descritos, como o fechamento simples do anel inguinal interno nas hérnias indiretas 12 e a oclusão do anel inguinal interno com tampão ("plug") de tela 13 . Foram abandonados devido ao elevado índice de recidiva 14 , muito superior à correção pela via convencional, cujos índices não ultrapassam 2%.…”
