Myxoma is a benign tumour with a propensity for local infiltration and recurrence. Laryngeal myxoma presents as a submucosal polyp. Being an uncommon tumour and mimicking vocal cord polyp, only anecdotal evidence is available in the literature. The literature was reviewed from 1986 onwards using the keywords “myxoma” and “larynx.” The databases used were PubMed, Google Scholar, Scopus, and Web of Science. Along with this, we also report our case of vocal fold myxoma. We found a total of 19 studies reporting laryngeal myxoma. Laryngeal myxoma typically affects males in the 6th decade with a history of smoking. Unlike myxomas originating outside the larynx, recurrence is not widely described, and microlaryngeal surgery will usually suffice. Laryngeal myxomas should definitely be kept in the list of differential diagnosis when dealing with a benign-looking vocal fold lesion.

Myxomas are rare in the vocal cords. A 69-year-old man was admitted with one-year history of progressive dysphonia. Laryngoscopy revealed a polypoid mass on the right vocal cord. The diagnosis was cellular myxoma. A review of the literature including the present case revealed eleven reported cases of myxoma. Ten cases were classic myxoma. To the best of our knowledge, cellular myxoma has not been previously reported in the vocal cord. Hypercellularity does not affect the behavior of cellular myxoma. However, its recognition is important to prevent confusion with the group of low-grade myxoid sarcomas. Cellular myxoma should be considered in the differential diagnosis of any vocal cord mass.

Key words: fibromyxoma, laryngopharynxМиксома (myxoma: от греч. myxa -слизь) -добро-качественная опухоль соединительно-тканного про-исхождения, состоящая из недифференцированных звездчатых клеток, расположенных в рыхлой муциноз-ной строме с базофильными волокнами. Слизеподоб-ная масса является гиалуроновой кислотой, так как растворяется гиалуронидазой и дает реакцию на муко-иды. Считается, что первым термин «миксома» ис-пользовал R. Virchow в 1871 г., описывая слизистую опухоль пупочной области [1]. Миксома развивается из остатков слизистой ткани эмбрионального периода. Такая миксома называется первичной и построена из звездчатых (отростчатых) клеток, небольшого числа коллагеновых и эластических волокон, заключенных в основном в мукоидного типа веществе. Вторичная миксома развивается в связи со слизистой дистрофией фибромы, липомы, хондромы. Она встречается чаще первичной, построена аналогично ей, но во вторичной миксоме имеются остатки исходной опухоли. Эти опу-холи чаще встречаются в сердце, подкожной и апонев-ротической ткани, органах мочеполовой системы, в коже и др. [1][2][3][4][5].
