Koru: Teaching Mindfulness to Emerging Adults

Abstract: Although there is much interest in teaching mindfulness to college students and other emerging adults, traditional methods of teaching mindfulness and meditation are not always effective for reaching this age group. Koru is a program, developed at Duke University, that has been specifically designed with the developmental characteristics of emerging adults in mind.

“…In addition, the quality of life decreases. For example, a student who experiences dysmenorrhea cannot concentrate on learning and her motivation to learn will decrease because of the dysmenorrhea felt during the teaching and learning process [18], [19]. Through this mindful-START procedure, the participants are expected to be able to interpret the positive and negative events so that they can be grateful for the pleasure given by God.…”
