The coastal zone of Losari Beach is located in a strategic position and rich in potential coastal resources, but the high density of human activities has decreased the quality of the surrounding waters.This study aimed to examine water quality based on meiofauna abundance and pollution index in the coastal zone of Losari Beach, Makassar. It employed a quantitative descriptive approach with purposive sampling method. The identified total meiofauna abundance was117,176 individuals/m2consisting of 138 species from 13 phyla. Ostracoda, olygochaeta, sarcomastigophora, ciliophora, and polychaetawere phyla with the highest abundance because of their high adaptability to polluted aquatic conditions. Meanwhile, tardigrada and aelosomatidaewere found in very low abundance because both phyla only thrive in pollution-free environments and have a pattern of high migration flow from one habitat to another. As for aelosomatidae, the habitat of its speciesis limitedto brackish or saline waters. A good-quality aquatic environment is a habitat for all benthic organisms and enables their even distribution. It explains the discovery of true and temporary meiofauna with uniform or even compositions in the bottom of the waters. The waters in the coastal zone of Losari Beach are heavily polluted. The stationslocated around the traditional Paotere harbor, hotels, restaurants, Losari Beach Platforms, the waste disposal outlets of Stella Maris Hospital, Fort Rotterdam canals, and Jeneberang River mouthhad very high pollution index. Some of these stations had low meiofauna abundance levels, and the poor water quality in their surroundings was caused by anthropogenic activity. Even though the area around TanjungMerdeka Beach had relatively low pollution index, it was categorized as severely contaminated because the index score was >10.

The purpose of this research is about to find out how the society's local wisdom of Lempur, Gunung Raya sub-district conserve water resources. Data and information were taken from interview and observation of river condition by observing its pH and transparency. This research adopts descriptive qualitative approach. The informants of this research were the leaders of custom Lekok Lima Puluh Tumbi Lempur and Village government of Lempur. The data were collected by taking the sample of river water quality, interview, and documentation. The data were analyzed by using interactive model concept proposed by Miles and Huberman (reduction, display, and verification). In general, the results of this research showed that local wisdom such as the customary law have not been implemented well yet. Based on the test of pollution parameter, it was found that the condition of waters did not achieve the level of danger yet because the level of pH is 7. ABSTRAKEkosistem hutan mangrove merupakan habitat berbagai jenis mikroorganisme, tetapi saat ini hutan mangrove mengalami gangguan dalam hal kualitas lingkungan. Salah satu faktor lingkungan yang sangat berpengaruh bagi pertumbuhan mangrove adalah kondisi salinitas. Salinitas merupakan faktor penting dalam pertumbuhan, daya tahan dan zonasi spesies mangrove. Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk mengetahui keragaman kondisi salinitas pada lingkungan tempat tumbuh mangrove di teluk kupang Nusa Tenggara Timur. Penelitian ini dilakukan di Teluk Kupang Nusa Tenggara Timur. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode systematic sampling yang di letakan secara sistematis di kawasan hutan mangrove. Untuk pengukuran salinitas mengunakan metode Transect Line Plot. Petak ukur dibuat tegak lurus garis pantai, dengan ukuran 10 m x 10 m, dan Jarak antar jalur 50 meter. Hasil penelitian pengukuran salintas hutan mangrove pada pesisir pantai kota Kupang menunjukan nilai salinitas 10‰-26,33%, sedangkan kondisi salinitas hutan mangrove di pesisir pantai kabupaten Kupang 10‰-42,33‰. Berdasaarkan kondisi salinitas pada hutan mangrove yang berada disepanjang pesisir pantai teluk Kupang menunjukan kondisi lingkungan yang mendukung pertumbuhan tanaman mangrove walaupun pada beberapa tempat menunjukan nilai salinitas yang tinggi. Kondisi salinitas ini merupakan perumusan penentuan kondisi lingkungan ekologis hutan mangrove di pesisir pantai teluk kupang sebagai suatu upaya untuk mendukung berbagi kegiatan pengelolaan hutan mangrove. ABSTRACTThe mangrove forest ecosystem is a habitat for various types of microorganisms, but now the mangrove forest is experiencing disruption in the terms of environmental quality. One of the environmental factors which is very influential for mangrove growth is the salinity condition. Salinity is an important factor in the growth, endurance and zoning of mangrove species. The purpose of this study was to determine the diversity of salinity conditions in the environment where mangroves grow in Kupang Bay, East Nusa Tenggara. This research was conducted in Kupang Bay, East Nusa Tenggara. The method used is a systematic sampling method that is systematically placed in the mangrove forest area. For measuring salinity using the Transect Line Plot method. Measuring plots are made perpendicular to the coastline, in the size of 10 m x 10 m, and the distance between lines is 50 meters. The results of the study of mangrove forest salinity measurements in the coastal city of Kupang showed a salinity value of 10 ‰ -26.33%, while the condition of the salinity of mangrove forests on the coast of Kupang regency was 10 42 -42.33 ‰. Based on the salinity conditions in mangrove forests located along the Kupang bay coastline, environmental conditions that support the growth of mangrove plants even though in some places they show high salinity values.
