Abstract: Mice were fed methylmercury (10nmol/g feed) and selenite (0,8,20 or 50nmol/ml drinking water) for one or two weeks. Doses of selenite and duration of feeding were determining factors of total mercury and inorganic mercury concentrations in organs.Increasing the dose of selenite produced the following results: concentration of total mercury in creased in the brain and liver and decreased in the blood, kidneys and spleen; concentration of inorganic mercury increased in the liver and spleen, decreased in the kidn… Show more

“…The recovery from UV-caused inhibition in DNA synthesis was minimal in RSa cells after UV irradiation (8 and 12 J/m 2 ), but marked at about 6 h after the irradiation in UV r -1 cells (18). Thus, to analyze the alteration of gene expression preceding the recovery of DNA synthesis, 4 h post-UV (10 J/m 2 ) irradiation was chosen as the time point for RNA extraction.…”

“…Characteristics of the RSa cell line have been described with regard to high UV sensitivity (17). Its UV-resistant variant cell, UV r -1, was established as previously described (18). Cells were cultured in Eagle's minimal essential medium (EMEM) (GIBCO/BRL, Grand Island, NY) containing 10% calf serum (Intergen, NY) and antibiotics (100 g/ml of streptomycin and 100 units/ml of penicillin G) at 37°C in a humidified atmosphere containing 5% CO 2 .…”

“…RSa cells were established from human embryo-derived fibroblast cells by double infection with Simian virus 40 and Rous sarcoma virus, and were characterized as cells with high UV sensitivity and low DNA-repair activity. [17][18][19] The cells were cultured in Eagle's minimal essential medium (EMEM) (Nissui, Tokyo) containing 10% calf serum (CS, Invitrogen, Carlsbad, CA) at 37 C in a humidified atmosphere containing 5% CO 2 .…”
