Jumping performance and take-off efficiency correlation with the basic anthropometric parameters in female volleyball players

Abstract: Background: Vertical jump height and body height are almost universally recognised as determinant factors in elite volleyball performance. Objective: The purpose of this study was to assess the correlation between basic anthropometric parameters (body height and body weight) and jumping performance in a group of 16 female volleyball players (age 19.14 ± 5.52 years, height 1.80 ± 0.06 m, weight 69.81 ± 6.85 kg) and in a control group of 15 female university students (age 22.90 ± 0.83 years, height 1.70 ± 0.05 m… Show more

“…The results of this study point to the fact that volleyball players have an average height of 173±8.77 cm, body weight 66.04±9.09 kg, BMI 22.03 kg/m², which is appropriate for volleyball, where there is no obesity. They are slightly lower and easier compared to previous research on a selected sample of Polish, Czech, Portuguese, Brazilian, Greek, and Serbian volleyball players [8, 22,31,[46][47][48][49][50], but more and heavier than the Indian, Italian, and Japanese sample [7, 9, 51]. Also, the BMI values are within the allowed normal status, which is proportional to the ratio of height and weight of the competitors.…”

“…Typically, volleyball players have tall body postures and are capable of quick movements in all directions [24]. The average height form female volleyball players is approximately 1.80 ± 0.06 meter meters [25], while for males, the average height is around 193.6 ± 8.4 cm [26]. One theory explains that when a volleyball player performs a spike, jump serve, and block, it is important for them to have an aboveaverage height so that they can combine the power and strength of their lower exermities during vertical jumps [27].…”
